How Rooted to Rise Works

A 12-Week Experience Created for Black Women & Women Of Color

A space to be seen. A space to exhale. A space to rise.

Rooted to Rise is a 12-week group experience created specifically for Black women seeking space for reflection, connection, mindfulness, and intentional growth.

Black women are often expected to carry, lead, care, adapt, achieve, and remain strong, even while navigating the intersections of racism, sexism, workplace pressures, family responsibilities, and expectations from the communities we belong to. Rooted to Rise creates a space where those experiences do not have to be explained away, minimized, or separated from emotional well-being.

Here, you are invited to put some of the weight down.

Currently offered virtually through Zoom, Rooted to Rise brings Black women together in a supportive community to explore who we are, what we carry, what has shaped us, and what we need to move forward more rooted in ourselves.

Why Black Women and Women of Color?

Rooted to Rise centers Black women intentionally. An additional cohort centers Women of Color more broadly.

Our experiences are shaped not only by who we are individually, but by the environments, relationships, cultural messages, and systems we move through. For Black women and Women of Color, race and gender intersect in ways that can influence how we are perceived, what is expected of us, how our emotions are interpreted, and how much space we are given to be vulnerable, uncertain, tired, or simply human.

Rooted to Rise does not ask you to leave those realities at the door.

They are part of the conversation.

This is a space where Black women can reflect alongside other Black women, build community, practice mindfulness, recognize strengths, examine patterns, and cultivate ways of living that feel more grounded and authentic.

Rooted in Our Experiences

Rooted to Rise was created with Black women at the center. Black women navigate a particular intersection of race and gender that can shape how we are perceived, what is expected of us, how our emotions are interpreted, and how much space we are given to rest, be vulnerable, or simply be human.

The primary Rooted to Rise cohort creates an intentional space for Black women to gather with other Black women, where our experiences can be explored within the cultural, relational, and structural contexts that shape them.

We also recognize that women of color across racial and cultural identities navigate their own experiences of marginalization, belonging, identity, and resilience. An additional Rooted to Rise cohort is available for women of color who do not identify as Black. This cohort follows the same 12-week format while creating space for participants to explore their experiences within their own cultural identities and communities.

Both cohorts share the heart of Rooted to Rise: mindfulness, reflection, connection, self-understanding, and the opportunity to become more deeply rooted in who you are.

Choose Your Cohort

Rooted to Rise: Black Women’s Cohort
A 12-week experience intentionally created for Black women to reflect, connect, practice mindfulness, and explore identity, strengths, boundaries, belonging, and growth in community with other Black women.

Rooted to Rise: Women of Color Cohort
A 12-week experience for women of color who do not identify as Black, offering an intentional space to explore identity, culture, belonging, well-being, and personal growth alongside other women of color.

Both cohorts are currently offered live via Zoom and alternate weekly between facilitated group sessions and guided mindfulness sessions.

12 Weeks. Two Ways of Gathering.

Rooted to Rise alternates between group sessions and mindfulness sessions, creating a rhythm of reflection and restoration throughout the 12-week experience.

Group weeks create space for facilitated conversation, reflection, learning, and connection. Together, we explore identity, belonging, strengths, relationships, boundaries, stress, self-perception, and the experiences that shape how we understand ourselves and move through the world.

Mindfulness weeks invite us out of constant thinking and doing and back into the body. Through guided meditation, breathwork, body scans, grounding, and other mindfulness practices, participants develop tools for presence, awareness, and restoration.

The alternating rhythm is intentional: reflect, practice, integrate, return.

What We’ll Explore

Across the 12 weeks, our work centers on themes such as identity and self-understanding, strengths and values, stress and resilience, boundaries, relationships, belonging, self-trust, rest, mindfulness, and moving forward with greater intention.

We reject that idea that Black Women need to be strong.

Many of us have had enough practice at it.

Rooted to Rise asks:

What allows us to feel grounded? What helps us recognize ourselves beyond expectations and survival? What happens when we have space to be held as we grow?

Your Assessments

Your Rooted to Rise experience includes two assessments designed to deepen self-awareness and give you additional language for understanding yourself.

CliftonStrengths® helps identify the natural patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that contribute to how you engage with the world. Rather than beginning with what needs to be fixed, we begin by recognizing what is already present.

Intercultural Conflict Style (ICS) helps you understand how you communicate and respond when navigating disagreement, tension, and conflict, including how cultural differences may shape those experiences.

Your results become tools for reflection throughout the program, not labels or measures of who you should be.

What’s Included

Your 12-week Rooted to Rise experience includes six facilitated group sessions and six guided mindfulness sessions, all currently held live via Zoom. Participants also receive CliftonStrengths® and Intercultural Conflict Style assessments, reflective exercises and resources, mindfulness practices that can be used beyond the program, and connection with a cohort of Black women moving through the experience together.

We rise differently when we are rooted in who we are and held in community as we grow.

Some weeks we talk. Some weeks we breathe. Every week, we practice returning to ourselves.
